Project desctiption:

J5’s client was a small organization that supports affordable housing options in a small municipality. In 2021 they commissioned J5 to conduct an independent assessment of their current state customer experience and to offer recommendations about how to improve it. They came with a desire to become more customer-driven, and to make meaningful connections between the diverse community of people they exist to serve.

J5’s goal was to offer outputs that could have a life beyond the project. creating tools and templates that could be evolved and shared by staff in future projects, or used to build culture and buy-in. The outputs of this work were designed to support both short-term innovation and long-term transformation of their busines.

Kristofer Kelly-Frere
Kristofer Kelly-Frere - Creative Lead, J5 Design

Kristofer has a magic ability to inspire people to dream about a better future.  He believes great design grows from the community and that his job is to level the playing field and create conditions where everyone can participate in shaping the world around them.  An architect by training and a systemic designer by practice, he has staked his career on the idea that people will rise to the challenge if asked a good enough question. He has worked across a range of public, private, and government institutions to craft experiences, establish design labs, and deliver ground-breaking social R&D projects.  Kristofer led the team responsible for “Braver Training Grounds” - a project with Red Deer Housing Authority that  recently won  2022 Service Design Award. Success like this is the result of his love for playing in the mud of ambiguity in order to move innovative dreams across the threshold into reality.
