Use of your Personal Information

In fulfilling the terms of our contracts or for billing purposes, we process and use your personal information. Your personal data (e.g. name, home address, email address, payment information) are processed only in accordance with the provisions of German data privacy laws.

We make use of third-party services to provide you with SDN products or services. In these cases, we may need to share information. This happens, for example, when your ordered magazine will be dispatched and delivered to your address by post.

Information automatically collected and stored

When you browse through our SDN website, certain information about you can be collected. We automatically collect and temporarily store the information about your visit. The information includes your request, IP address, browser type and language, and the date and time of your request. We use this information for statistical purposes and to help us make our site more useful to visitors. Unless it is specifically stated otherwise, no additional information will be collected about you.

General Information about the used cookies

Cookies are tiny text files stored on your computer or mobile device that enables SDN features and functionality. The use of Cookies also enables you to easily share interesting content from our website with your friends from any social media network. Other cookies make it possible to secure your access to your membership account or optimize our web presence as well as our service.

We are using two types of cookies: persistent cookies and session cookies. Session cookies are stored for the duration of the current session, i.e. usually for the visit to a website or until you close the internet browser. A persistent cookie remains in your browser and permits its recognition when you return to the website. This allows us to improve your access to our website.

Controlling cookies

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their setting preferences. So you can prevent storage of cookies by choosing a "disable cookies" option in your browser settings. But this can limit the functionality of what we offer and provide on our website as a result. So if you do not want to receive cookies, you just have to change your browser settings on your computer or other devices you're using to access the internet.

To be assured that you have disabled cookies, you will see an opted-out cookie on your browser-device. In this case, we will be unable to set cookies to your device next time you visit us.

If you use our SDN website without changing your browser settings, we will assume that you are happy to receive the cookies that we use. Please note that our website will have limited functionality when cookies are disabled on your device.

What kind of third-party cookies does the SDN website use?

Third-party services are used on the SDN website for analysis-related purposes or in order to easily share interesting content with your friends from any social media network.

1. Web analysis with Google Analytics
Our website uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service of Google Inc. (Google), Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. Google Analytics uses cookies, i.e. text files, stored on your device to enable analysis of website usage by you. Information generated by the cookie about your use of this website is usually transmitted to a Google server in the United States and stored there. In case of activated IP anonymization on our SDN website, your IP address is previously truncated by Google within member states of the European Union or in other states which are party to the agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases a full IP address is transmitted to a Google server in the United States and truncated there.
On behalf of the SDN, Google will use this information to evaluate your use of the website, compile reports about website activities, and provide us with further services related to website and Internet usage. The IP address sent from your browser as part of Google Analytics is not merged with other data by Google. You can prevent the storage of cookies by appropriately setting your browser software; in this case, however, please note that you might not be able to fully use all functions offered by this website.
In addition to refusing the Google Analytics cookie by changing your browser settings, you can prevent data generated by the cookie and relating to your use of the website (including your IP address) from being collected and processed by Google, by downloading and installing
a browser plug-in from the following opt-out link https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en.
Additional to Google Analytics our SDN website uses the extension "anonymizeIP" which ensures that your IP is only processed in an anonymized and truncated form.

2. Social plug-ins from Facebook
We use social plug-ins from facebook.com, operated by Facebook Inc., 1 Hacker Way, Menlo Park, CA 94025, USA. You can recognize these plug-ins by their Facebook logo or the supplement "Facebook Social Plug-in".
Here is an example of how these plug-ins work: If you click on the (Facebook-) "Share" button the relevant information is transmitted directly from your browser to Facebook and stored there. Furthermore, Facebook will make the shared content public on your Facebook profile. If you are logged in on Facebook the plug-in can assign the visit of our website directly to your Facebook profile. Facebook may collect information about your surfing behaviour and that you have accessed our website. We have no influence on the data gathered by the plug-in. We will inform you according to our state of knowledge. Even if you are not logged in on or are not even registered on Facebook there is a possibility that the plug-ins forward your IP-address which is then stored by Facebook. For details about collecting and handling your personal data by Facebook and your related rights, please read the Facebook data privacy policy http://www.facebook.com/policy.php.
If you do not want Facebook to link data about you via our website to your Facebook profile you have to log out of your Facebook profile before you visit our website and change the retargeting settings within your Facebook profile.

3. Social plug-ins from Twitter
With Twitter and its Retweet functions, we use social plug-ins from Twitter.com, operated by Twitter Inc. 795 Folsom St., Suite 600, San Francisco, CA 94107. If you retweet one of our unique and interesting contents your visit on our website will be announced to third parties and assigned to your Twitter account. Details about collecting and handling your personal data by Twitter as well as your rights and setting options for protecting your personal information can be found in the Twitter privacy policy: http://twitter.com/privacy.

4. Social plug-ins from LinkedIn
We use plug-ins which are provided by LinkedIn Corporation (LinkedIn), 2029 Stierlin Court, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. These plug-ins can be identified by the LinkedIn logo and the LinkedIn “Share”-button.
If you access our website using this plug-in your browser sets up a direct connection to the LinkedIn servers. Thereby LinkedIn receives the information that you (your IP-address) have (has) accessed our website. If you click on the LinkedIn „Share“-button while you are logged in on your LinkedIn account you can link a certain content on your LinkedIn-Profile which enables LinkedIn to allocate the visit to our website to your LinkedIn account. We do not know the content of the data transferred to LinkedIn or how LinkedIn uses such data.
Details about collecting and handling your personal data by Twitter as well as your rights and setting options for protecting your personal information can be found in the LinkedIn privacy policy http://www.linkedin.com/legal/privacy-policy. If you do not want to track your behaviour as a LinkedIn member on third-party websites you can opt-out in your LinkedIn settings.

Embedded contents

To illustrate our SDN website, i. e. to share moments from our conferences with you, we may embed videos from our YouTube Channel. You do not need to register with either YouTube or Google (YouTube owner) to watch the embedded videos. When you watch the provided videos, YouTube may record non-personally identifiable information about its site usage, such as channels used, videos watched, and data transfer details to improve its services. If you log on to the YouTube site before watching a video YouTube may associate information about your site usage with your YouTube account.
